Seating Advice - Finding a good ergonomic or orthopaedic office chair

>When looking for an office chair which will provide the right type of comfort and support for you in your particular job, these are some questions you should be asking:

Is the seat comfortable and does it fit my shape?

If the seat pan is too long for your legs it may either catch you behind the knees or prevent you from leaning back fully against the lumbar support. There should be a gap of at least half an inch between the edge of the seat and the back of your knees. If the gap is too large then your thighs will not be properly supported. Most of our office chairs have a seat pan with a front which curves down, preventing the seat from catching you behind the knees. The seat should support your weight and be comfortable, with a contoured edge to avoid compression of the thighs and buttocks.

Can I adjust the height of the seat?

Our office chairs are pneumatically adjustable, making it easy to adjust the seat height whilst sitting on the chair. Ideally, an office chair should have a good range of adjustable height, to accommodate people of all sizes. You should be able to adjust the height of the seat pan so that the front of your knees is level with or just below the level of the seat, and you are able to rest your feet flat on the ground.

Will the chair support my back comfortably?

A large number of our office chairs have adjustable lumbar and spine supports for full posture support. It is important to make sure that the chair back does not prevent you from moving your elbows back while working.

Is the seat wide enough for my hips?

You should have at least an inch of space either side of your hips and thighs. If the chair is not wide enough you will find yourself sitting too far forward and your thighs will not be properly supported.

Our office chairs are all designed for comfort, support and dynamic sitting. In particular, our ranges of executive and designer office chairs have been designed to be fully ergonomic and supportive of back and posture.
